California Sheephead, Semicossyphus pulcher

Very similar in niche to the Tautog of the East Coast, the Sheephead has chompers that can crush the shells of scallops, mussels, & lobsters. Also wild is the variation in color patterns between male, female, and juvenile.  This piece depicts a top of the food chain mature male.
